Bala does PA!

October 30th, 2013 by Martin

We have an exciting week coming up! On Wednesday, November 6, Bala Brass will be giving a masterclass and performance at Drexel University in Philadelphia, and on Thursday, November 7, we will be at Kutztown University as artists in residence at KU’s annual brass and woodwind day.

logoOur day in Kutztown will be filled with performances and masterclasses, including warm-up sessions and individual master classes by instrument led by Bala Brass members. Bala Brass trumpeter Seelan Manickam will direct students and participants in a large brass ensemble performance, and Kristen, James, Martin, and John will perform solo works with piano in an afternoon recital. Brass Day is crowned by a full Bala Brass recital in the evening. In addition to works by Ludwig Maurer, Phil Snedecor, and Kevin McKee, we are excited to perform works from our upcoming CD “Revealed”, Dana Wilson’s brass quintet “Daylight at Midnight”, “For Then and Now” by Larry Bitensky, and “Wind Sculptures” by David Jex.

Thank you very much to Professor Dan Neuenschwander for hosting us at Kutztown. We are looking forward to being part of what will surely be a fantastic event for all brass players!

After a spectacular week in Columbia, South Carolina, we are pleased to announce that our recording project is officially in post production. Many thanks to our engineer, Jeff Francis, for his infinite wisdom and patience throughout the process.

We will be releasing the album on the Beauport Classical label in early 2014. Here’s a teaser while you wait. This is a bit of Clint Needham’s awesome and challenging piece, Abstract Mosaics. Enjoy, and stay tuned for the final product in the coming months!
